Red TV is probably the Taylor's version project many Swifties remember the most fondly because of how much Taylor put into it. We got two new music videos/a short film, so many new vault songs, and finally got the ten minute version of "All Too Well" that Taylor had been talking about for years. I have always loved the original version of "All Too Well," but the ten minute version is one of her best.
Most of her Taylor's versions for her original songs were done incredibly well and I enjoy listening to them just as much as the original album. So many of the vault songs are great. Also, I loved the performance she did on SNL for "All Too Well (10 Minute Version)." One of her best. Red is an album that holds a special place in my heart and I enjoyed revisiting it in this new way.
Favorite vault tracks: "All Too Well (10 Minute Version)," "The Very First Night," "Message in a Bottle," and "Forever Winter."
Fearless was the album other than Taylor's debut, that I was most excited to hear the Taylor's Version for because of how long it has been since the original came out. I had tears in my eyes multiple times listening to her sing these songs that I have loved for so long in her grownup voice. This album is absolute perfection in every way.
This has some of my favorites From the Vault songs. My favorites from this vault are definitely: "Mr. Perfectly Fine" and "That's When."
Taylor's album evermore is the one that came out closest to my birthday which is on December 10th (it came out on December 11th). It has one of my absolute favorite songs from any Taylor Swift album which is "right where you left me." I cannot believe that this song was only a deluxe track. It definitely references Miss Havisham from Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. I enjoy the literary references Taylor uses on her albums. She's always had them but folklore and evermore is where she started using them quite a bit more.
My favorite songs from the album are: "right where you left me," "no body, no crime," "long story short," "gold rush," and "tis the damn season."
I love songs that tell a story and Taylor's folklore is full of such incredible ones. It was a great surprise when she decided to release this secretly in July 2020. For her eighth studio album, she experimented with a new sound which obviously worked out incredibly well.
My favorite songs from the album are: "august," "illicit affairs," "the last great american dynasty," "betty," and "exile."
Taylor's seventh album, Lover has many songs that I love listening to quite often in my rotation of her music. "Cruel Summer" has been one of my favorites of hers ever since it first came out in 2019 and it's great that it has gotten so popular over the years.
My favorite songs from the album are: "Cruel Summer," "London Boy," "Cornelia Street," "I Think He Knows," "Death By a Thousand Cuts," and "Paper Rings."
I remember being very excited for new music from Taylor in 2017. It was the longest period between albums, since she always had her albums come out every two years. I loved "Look What You Made Me Do" and was highly looking forward to seeing what else would be on the album. reputation was definitely everything I wanted from it. My favorite from the album was "Getaway Car" and it still is to this day.
My favorites from the album are: "Getaway Car," "I Did Something Bad," "Look What You Made Me Do," and "New Year's Day."
Happy Fall everyone! Fall is my favorite season and I am really looking forward to seeing what books I get to during the next couple of months. There are many series I plan on either finishing or at least continuing in. These are some of the books I plan on reading by the end of the year.
1. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
- Another classic that I have been meaning to read for years.
2. Rhythm of War by Brandon Sanderson
- The fourth book in The Stormlight Archive. I have loved my time with the series and I would at least like to get to this book by the end of the year. Hopefully, I'll also read Wind and Truth.
3. Lacuna by N. R. Walker
- I have owned Lacuna for a couple of years now and have yet to pick it up. This is definitely one I hope to get to sometime soon since I love N. R. Walker's books so much.
4. The Herbwitch Princess (Witches of Oldera #2) by Irene Chau
- I read The Herbwitch Apprentice earlier this year and am looking forward to seeing what will happen in the sequel.
5. Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice
- One of my favorite horror/fantasy movies is definitely Interview with the Vampire. I have been wanting to read this book ever since I first saw the movie and will definitely be doing so in October.
6. Hooky, Volume 3 by Míriam Bonastre Tur
- Yet, another series I started a few years ago that I plan on finishing by the end of the year. Definitely, looking forward to seeing what happens with Dani and Dorian in the final book.
7. Set in Stone by Mari Mancusi
- I enjoyed many of the books in the Twisted Tales series and have been wanting to read this one which is based on Disney's The Sword in the Stone/King Arthur tales. King Arthur has always been one of my favorite topics to read about, so I need to read it very soon.
8. Rewitched by Lucy Jane Wood
- I have been eagerly awaiting for Fall to come to read Rewitched. It seems like the perfect autumnal book to get into the season. I love witchy books.
9. The Pinhoe Egg and Mixed Magics: Four Tales of Chrestomanci by Diana Wynne Jones
- This year, I have been reading through the entire Chrestomanci series and I am definitely going to finish it within the next couple of months. Only one book left and the collection of short stories. I'll have to figure out what books of Diana's I want to read after these.
10. Johnny and the Bomb (Johnny Maxwell #3) by Terry Pratchett
- Another series I want to finish reading in 2025. I plan on reading it in October.
Taylor created a nearly perfect album with 1989. Many of the songs on this album are probably in my most played of her songs. I love how many of them make me want to stop what I'm doing and dance. They are a joy to listen to. I'm hoping The Life of a Showgirl is similar in this regard.
My favorite songs from the album are: "Blank Space," "Style," "Wonderland," "Out of the Woods," "This Love," "Shake It Off," and "I Wish You Would."
Red has always been one of my absolute favorites of Taylor's albums. I love the mix of different songs and getting to see Taylor's first real steps into pop music. This album came out during my first semester of college, which was obviously a time of big change in my life. I spent a lot of time listening to this between classes while working on homework. I always felt like she was there for me over those years, especially when I had my biggest heartbreak.
It has been interesting going through each of the albums like this in order and listening to every one of her songs. Some of these songs I haven't heard for years at this point.
My favorites from the album: "Holy Ground," "The Last Time," "22," "All Too Well," "Red," and "State of Grace."
Speak Now came out when I was a junior in high school and like all of her albums before it, I connected so much to what she was singing about. My favorite song from it at the time of its release was definitely "The Story of Us." I loved the sound of this song so much. To this day, it is still one of my top favorites out of any of her songs.
The rollout for this album is probably the one I remember the most from that time period, especially her Wonderstruck perfume. I still have a bottle of it on my shelf by my cds that I will never get rid of. The bottle is beautiful and it smells wonderful. I love that she chose to write all of the songs solo for this project. It was great to open up this album lyric booklet and see just "Taylor Swift" in the sections that shows who wrote the songs.
My favorite songs are: "Enchanted," "The Story of Us," "Dear John," "Long Live," and "Sparks Fly."
Fearless is probably the Taylor Swift album I am most nostalgic for. It was the first album of hers that I listened to on release day and I was obsessed with it. I couldn't believe that there was a song called "Fifteen"when I was almost fifteen. Hearing the first notes of "Fearless", always brings a smile to my face and makes me want to dance. Each song on this album brings back so many memories of dancing to this album all over my house.
My favorites are: "Fearless," "Love Story," "That Way I Loved You," "The Other Side of the Door," "Fifteen," "The Best Day," and "Forever and Always."
In the lead up to Taylor's 12th album, Swifties are listening to all of her albums in order. Below, I have put in the graphic of which album to listen to each day if you would be interested in participating too.
I cannot believe that Taylor's debut is almost twenty years old now. Loving going down memory lane while listening to this today. I still remember listening to the deluxe version of the album for the first time and falling in love with Taylor's music about 18 years ago. My goodness, where has the time gone.
My favorites will always be: "I'm Only Me When I'm With You," "Our Song," "Mary's Song (Oh My My My)," "Should've Said No," "Stay Beautiful," and "Tim McGraw."
Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
Books with Occupations in the Title
Most of the books in this list are not normally ones I would talk much about on this blog. These are all works which I have highly enjoyed reading over the years.
1. The Wand in the Word: Conversations with Writersof Fantasy compiled and edited by Leonard S. Marcus
- The authors in this anthology are: Lloyd Alexander, Franny Billingsley, Susan Cooper, Nancy Farmer, Brian Jacques, Diana Wynne Jones, Ursula K. Le Guin, Madeleine L. Engle, Garth Nix, Tamora Pierce, Terry Pratchett, Phillip Pullman, and Jane Yolen
- A collection of interviews from many of the great fantasy writers. This book gives a look into the pasts of these writers and also what got them into writing. It has three of my favorite writers Terry Pratchett, Diana Wynne Jones, and Lloyd Alexander and so many others whose works I have enjoyed.
2.Not Quite What I Was Planning: Six- Word Memoirs by WritersFamous and Obscure edited by Larry Smith
- I started loving six-word memoirs in tenth grade, about fifteen years ago. My English teacher had us read Ernest Hemingway's famous six-word story: "For sale: baby shoes, never worn" and then had us come up with our own. I got this book a few years later. It has always interested me to see what some authors can do with such a little amount of words and this is a prime example of that.
3. An Author's Odyssey (The Land of Stories #5) by Chris Colfer
- The fifth novel in The Land of Stories series. This is one of my favorite middle grade series and I love the adventure Conner and Alex go on throughout this book. It's literally every author's dream, well at least for many of us.
4. What it Means to Be a Teacher: A Celebration of the Humor, Heart, and Hero in Every Classroom by Jenn Larson
- A great inspiration and funny little book filled with many great quotations that I highly enjoyed and related to as a teacher.
5.Teachers: There is No Such Thing as a Hot Coffee & Other Teacher Truths edited by Bored Teachers
- Another funny little book that I had me laughing out loud while reading. Definitely, a perfect book for teachers.
6. What Teachers Make: In Praise of the Greatest Job in the World by Taylor Mali
- One of the most powerful videos I ever watched in my education classes in college was the one I have posted below showing Taylor Mali's slam poem "What Teachers Make." This book is based on his original poem. I highly recommend watching this video. Even after all these years, I still vividly remember watching this for the first time.
7. The Night Librarian by Christopher Lincoln
- A great graphic novel I read last year and highly enjoyed. It is a magical story set in the New York Public Library. I love when books show the power of reading to younger readers. Also, how they make the library seem like a magical place, even when magical events are not occurring. I'll also always be a sucker for a story where characters go in and out of books.
8. A Fellowship of Bakers & Magic (Adenashire #1) by J. Penner
- As an avid watcher of cooking and baking shows for most of my life, I had to read this cozy fantasy version of one. This was highly enjoyable. I especially love how descriptive J. Penner was with the "magical bakes." She had me wanting to eat all of them so much while reading.
9. Doctor Who: Rose by Russel T. Davies
- A wonderful novelization of the first episode of the 9th Doctor's arc, Rose. I really enjoy how Russel T. Davies expanded upon the original episode. Also, the references to other characters and Doctors were great. I hope they decide to release more illustrated adaptations like this, because I know I would love to pick them up.
10.Wizard for Hire (Wizard for Hire #1) by Obert Skye
- As a fantasy lover, I wanted to at least have one fantasy profession on this list. The Wizard for Hire series is one of my absolute favorite middle grade series.
